First Appointment

1.5 hour appointment

The purpose of the first appointment interview is to find out about you, your history, your medical conditions and what you want to get out of your exercise programme. Part of this initial consultation is to ensure that it is safe for you to engage in physical exercise.  You will also complete some questionnaires that will provide us with valuable information about your physical capabilities, general health and wellbeing. After establishing that it is safe to test you, you will undergo a series of exercise tests.  We closely monitor you during this process to determine how your body responds to exercise.  The information obtained from this session will enable us to develop an exercise programme that meets your current health and fitness needs and abilities.

The referrer and your GP will get a report showing your initial exercise assessment results. After four months they will receive a progress report.

Exercise Training

Length: 10 weeks

Sessions: 2 training sessions per week (approximately 1 hour per session)

During these sessions, you will participate in an individualised exercise programme. You will be closely supervised initially, with the level of supervision reducing as your health and physical fitness improves. All clients are checked before, during and following exercise to ensure they are (1) safe to take part in training, (2) safe to continue training and (3) safe to go home after the training session.

Exercise & Functional Reassessment

1 hour appointment

After your 10-week programme, you will be re-assessed to determine the impact of the programme on your health and physical fitness. The referrer and your GP will get a report showing your initial and final exercise assessments results – with changes in health and physical fitness highlighted.

If at any stage during the assessment or training process you would like a chaperone or someone else present, please discuss this with a member of staff.  You have the right to request a support person at any stage.  You also have the right to withdraw from the programme at any stage. If you have any ethnic, cultural or language requirements, please discuss this with a staff member, and we will do our best to accommodate them.
